Dr Richard J Hillock MBChB FRACP
Dr Richard Hillock is a highly qualified Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist who has recently completed his Fellowship in Electrophysiology and Pacing at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. He has a strong interest in ablation of atrial fibrillation and atrial tachycardia. He joined SA Heart in 2007.
Richard graduated from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1992 and went on to complete his cardiology training at Canterbury DHB, Christchurch in 2003.
Dr Richard Hillock was awarded his Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2003 and completed his Fellowship in Electrophysiology and Pacing at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2006. During his fellowship he worked with some of the leading arrhythmia specialists and electrophysiology researchers in Australasia.
He has extensive experience with the current leading technologies in arrhythmias and pacing, including new ablation techniques and pacemakers/ defibrillators.
Richard has been involved in several research projects including:
- Characterisation of electrophysiology substrates in patients with focal atrial tachycardia.
- BNP infusion in post-myocardial infarction population and the effect on left ventricular remodelling.
- Neurohormonal response to components of cardiac resynchronisation therapy in chronic heart failure.
- Selective site pacing for right ventricular pacemaker leads.
Richard also has a strong interest in GP education sessions as well as teaching and mentoring cardiology fellows and registrars, medical students, nursing and cardiac technician staff.
He achieved membership of The New Zealand Pacing and Electrophysiology Group in 2003 and the Australian Pacing and Electrophysiology Group in 2006. He is an Associate Member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
Dr Hillock consults regularly at Flinders, Noarlunga, Ashford and North Adelaide. He performs electrophysiology studies, cardiac ablations, pacing and defibrillator device implantation at the Ashford and Wakefield Hospitals. Dr Hillock also performs public electrophysiology and pacing procedures at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
